COUNTERFEIT OF HONOR
Honor with the worth-appraisal cut, so the conduct has to be performed to exist. Same code, same bearing, same word — but the standard lives in the onlookers, which is why it needs them. It is the duel over a remark at dinner, and at the far end it is the sword turned on its own owner: a code that destroys the person it was meant to protect is reputation, not honor. Honor never demands the person's ruin to keep the record clean, because it was never keeping a record.

HONOR
Integrity, indexed to a position. Conduct worthy of the seat you accepted — not of the person you are, which is integrity, but of the place you agreed to stand. A king with full warehouses while the town starves has broken no principle of his own; he has broken the charter of the seat. Honor is the second signature, the one the role adds. Its failure is not the crack but the shortfall: an action that fell beneath the standard the position set. That is why its native register is shame of the honest kind — 'that was beneath me' — and never 'I am beneath everyone.' The first has somewhere to go.
TRAINED BY — Trained in the empty room. Honor is the same when nobody will ever know — that is the whole test, and it can only be run alone. Every kept standard with no witness is one rep; every kept standard that cost something is two.
