HOW IT IS TRAINED
Trained by exposure to the big: night skies, oceans, mathematics, births. Awe shrinks the ego without humiliating it.
NOTE & CRAFT
The shiver at vastness. Nobody is taught the ocean at night.
The aiming. Standing in front of things bigger than you on purpose — and holding the shiver without converting it to threat.
Two diagnostics split them anywhere: the arrival-feel — recognition (“I was this all along”) is a note unblocked; brick-by-brick is craft — and the energy test — playing the note energizes even when hard; performing an import drains even when easy. Sheet 03 →
THE COUNTERFEIT
SPECTACLE
Awe's fear and surprise, aimed at something built to be looked at. The shiver is real and the vastness is staged, which is why it has to be bigger next time: awe shrinks the viewer and the viewer is glad of it; spectacle leaves the viewer exactly the same size, and hungry.
THE TELL — Did you get smaller? Awe leaves you smaller and glad. Spectacle leaves you wanting the next one.
